Berawal dari tendangan bebas, Ivan Perisic meneruskan bola dengan sundulan. Bola ditanduk Gvardiol masuk ke dalam gawang, sekaligus membawa Kroasia unggul 1-0.

Maroko langsung membalas dua menit berselang. Achraf Dari berhasil menggetarkan jala Kroasia dengan sundulannya, memanfaatkan situasi tendangan bebas. Skor 1-1 memasuki menit kesepuluh.
